Recently, I started learning about hydrotherapies due to my interest in using naturopathic treatments. I’ve found taking alternate hot/cold showers to be very effective in uplifting mood, reducing discomfort and improving the Chi in general. And now with HRW bathing, we are seeing new vistas of healing possible with the simplest, most life giving molecules in the Universe added to the water.

Hydrogen-rich water bath allows hydrogen to permeate the blood through the hair pores, sebaceous glands, and sweat pores in the skin, resulting in the dilatation of the subcutaneous capillaries under the skin, thus increasing subcutaneous blood flow. Therefore, hydrogen-rich water bath is capable of increasing anti-oxidative activity in the blood and can improve lipid metabolism. The implications are many fold:

Is this the fountain of youth? Hydrogen-rich water baths certainly tick many boxes. The effect on blood quality tells a lot. In a clinical study, HRW bath was found to have benefits for both healthy individuals as well as those suffering with connective tissue disease, collagen disease, polymyalgia rheumatic (muscle stiffness and pain), rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory skin conditions. The scientists utilized 338-682 μg/L (0.338 – 0.682 ppm) hydrogen-rich water for the HR bath, 10 minutes daily for up to 4 months. Water used in the bath was infused with hydrogen for 60 minutes, followed by 10-minute bathing. They found that the serum blood test displayed improved anti-oxidant capabilities, reduction in inflammation and improvement in skin appearance. The study shows that hydrogen-rich water has both short-, medium- and long-term effects on the increasing anti-oxidants and reducing C-Reactive Protein (CRP), a marker used to test inflammation. They concluded that the effects of hydrogen-rich water bathing can be beneficial for long-term health maintenance, i.e., has anti-aging effects. ​

The skin is as major an organ as the heart, lungs and kidneys. Its primary functions include respiration, excretion, blood and lymph circulation, immunity and the conduction of energy. Unlike other vital organs, the skin can be easily accessed and a variety of therapeutic techniques can be used to mediate systemic rejuvenation. Therefore, it is important to keep the skin healthy and use it to live longer.

Last week, I also updated our hydrogen inhalation research review section. We found new studies of high-concentration hydrogen and oxygen (3-4L/min) that support the use for diabetes and pre-diabetic conditions. In two clinical trials using 3000 ml/min or 3 L/min hydrogen inhalation in 431 and 1088 type-2 diabetes patients, it was found that it significantly improves glycemic control, weight, insulin dose, lipid metabolism, β-cell function and insulin resistance of patients with type 2 diabetes after 6 months. They applied 1-6 hours hydrogen inhalation daily for the studies. This is big news for all those who love to eat! One can clearly note the shrinking of bad stomach fat within a few sessions, its incredible how its all achieved by the cleanest and smallest antioxidant possible.

Although these studies are limited to diabetes patients, I wouldn’t be surprised that high concentration H2+O2 or Oxydrogen inhalation may show rapid effects in its already accepted uses at lower dose for cancer, stroke, lung function and musculoskeletal disorders. I certainly find that 1-2 hours at 1500-3000 in the morning while waking, sets me up for a loooong and mostly productive day of writing, babysitting, teaching, talking, playing the guitar or tennis. What also makes my day, is when I hear from our clients that it helped them sleep well, be well and prosper.
